Chapter 3 Sending Documents

Dialing and Transmission

Once you have loaded the document and made any desired transmission set- tings, you are ready to dial the number of the receiving fax machine and trans- mit the document. There are several ways of dialing, and you can select the one which best suits your needs.

Normal Dialing

With Normal Dialing, you pick up the handset (or press the SPEAKER key) and dial as you would to make a telephone call. If the receiving machine is set to receive faxes manually (this means that the receiving party answers your call by picking up the handset and speaking, and then presses their Start key to begin fax reception), you can talk with them before sending the fax.

1 Pick up the handset or press the

SPEAKER

SPEAKER key. Listen for the dial tone.

or

2 Dial the number of the receiving ma- chine by pressing the number keys.

3 Wait for the connection. Depending on

the setting of the receiving machine, youBeep will either hear a facsimile reception

tone or the other person will answer.

If the other party answers, ask them to press their Start key (if you pressed the SPEAKER key, pick up the hand- set to speak with them). This causes the receiving machine to issue a recep- tion tone.
