Answering Machine

Paging

Your fax machine can call you whenever a caller leaves a message on your answering machine. This paging feature is very helpful when you are expecting an important message but can’t sit by the phone.

Using paging is simple. You specify a telephone number ---- the page number ----

for the fax to call whenever you receive a message on the answering machine. Then you turn on the pager function. Now, every time the fax’s answering machine stores an incoming message, it will call the pager number. Upon answering, you will hear a beeping; this tells you that your fax is paging you. Then you perform a simple retrieval function and hear your message!

The fax will try to call the pager number after each message is saved on the answering machine. If the unit encounters a busy signal or if it does not receive an answer, it will automatically redial the pager number.

How many times it redials is something you can set (see “Set The Number of Pager Calls,” right column).

Note: The fax’s paging function works only with voice messages stored on its answering machine. For information on Muratec fax models which allow “fax retrieval” from remote fax machines, please contact your authorized Muratec retailer.

Setting the pager number

To set the pager number:

1.Press program, 9, mode/enter, 6.

2.Press mode/enter.

3.Use the numeric keypad to enter the desired telephone number, up to 40 characters in length (including special dialing characters as needed or helpful -

---see page 2.4).

4.Press mode/enter. The fax will return to standby mode.

Turning on paging

To activate the paging function so your fax machine will page you after it receives an incoming message on the answering machine:

1.Make sure you have entered a pager number and that the pager number currently stored is the desired one. If necessary, repeat the procedure described under “Setting the Pager Number”.

Note: If there is no pager number stored, or if the pager number were erased, the fax will not allow activation of the paging function.

2.Press answer to instruct the fax to answer calls automatically. The “answer”

lamp will light.

3.Press program, 9, mode/enter, 7.

Set Pager

4. Press mode/enter. The LCD will show:

Pager OFF

5.Press program.

Pager ON

Note: If you haven’t set a pager number, the fax will beep three times and briefly display:

Set Pager Number

---- reminding you to set the pager number (see left column).

The fax will return to standby mode without having turned on the Pager function. Set the pager number, then repeat this procedure from step 1.

6.Press mode/enter. The fax will return to standby and the “Pager” lamp will light.

Turning off paging

To turn off the pager function, repeat the procedure shown under “Turning On Paging” ---- except that in Step 5, when you press program, the LCD will show:

Pager OFF

---- and, when you finish, the Pager lamp will be off.

Set the number of pager calls

When your fax machine encounters a busy signal or when it does not receive an answer, it will automatically attempt to redial the pager number.

To set the pager number:

1.Press program, 9, mode/enter, 8.
