ANSI classifies SCSI commands as mandatory, optional, or vendor-specific. The

mandatory and optional commands implemented for the drives are summarized in

Table 31 and described fully in Chapter 5, SCSI Commands.

ERASE 19h Mandatory Causes part of all of the tape medium
to be erased, beginning at the current
position on the logical unit.
INQUIRY 12h Mandatory Requests that information about the
tape drive be sent to the initiator.
LOAD UNLOAD 1Bh Optional Causes tape to move from not ready to
ready. Prior to performing the load
unload, the target ensures that all data,
filemarks, and/or setmarks shall have
transferred to the tape medium.
LOCATE 2Bh Optional Causes the target to position the logical
unit to the specified block address in a
specified partition. When complete, the
logical position is before the specified
position.
LOG SELECT 4Ch Optional Provides a means for the initiator to
manage statistical information
maintained by the drive about the drive.
This standard defines the format of the
log pages but does not define the exact
conditions and events that are logged.
LOG SENSE 4Dh Optional Provides a means for the initiator to
retrieve statistical information
maintained by the drive about the drive.
