Connecting audio equipment

Your Macintosh can play and record stereo sound from a variety of sources. You can listen to or reproduce stereo sound by connecting audio equipment to the sound input and output ports on the computer. If you have an internal CD-ROM player, you can also use your computer to play and record sound from audio compact discs (CDs).

About your computer’s sound ports

The sound input port is marked with an icon of a microphone. The sound output port is marked with an icon of a speaker.
