Stage Time and Override
Your AVU1500’s SmartStage shutdown feature cuts power to your connected home theater equipment in three stages during a power outage. All of the AVU1500’s rear-panel power outlets are assigned to one of these three stages. While all of these rear-panel power outlets get battery backup, different outlets/stages get different lengths of battery
backup time:
| Battery | Battery | Battery |
Power | down to | down to | down |
Outage | 90% | 50% | to 0% |
Stage 1
Stage 2 battery-backup time
Stage 3 battery-backup time
The front-panel “Stage Time” button enables you to see how much approximate battery-backup time there is for each shutdown stage. Each time you press this button, the system will take one step forward through four estimated battery-backup times:
Show Stage 1 | Stage Time | Show Stage 2 | Stage Time | | Show Stage 3 | Stage Time | Show override |
battery time | | | battery time | | | | battery | time | | | time |
bttn. press | bttn. press | | bttn. press |

Stage Time bttn. press
Once you stop pressing the “Stage Time” button, the system will time-out after five seconds and go back to showing Stage 3 information. After all, your most critical devices are connected to Stage 3 outlets, so the Stage 3 battery-backup time is shown by default when the system is in normal operating mode.
If you do not want your AVU1500’s power outlets to shut down in stages and prefer to supply battery backup to all outlets for the duration of the battery’s usable power supply, then you can override the staged shutdown process. Pressing the front panel’s “Override” button will turn the override feature on or off. If the override feature is on, then there will only be one estimated battery-backup time to view, override time: the estimated amount of total time your AVU1500 can supply usable battery-backup power to
all rear-panel power outlets. In such a case, the “Stage Time” button is disabled since shutdown will not happen in stages. Once the usable battery power supply is fully consumed, all rear-panel power outlets will shut down (lose power).
In all cases, the estimated battery-backup time is affected by what home theater devices are on and how much power each is consuming. Any change in power consumption will cause your AVU1500 to reestimate the battery-backup time. In the event of a blackout, you will be able to see the estimated battery-backup time and can choose to help increase the battery-backup time by manually turning off less critical devices.
