CD-ROM/XA

CD-ROM Extended Architecture. An

 

 

extended CD-ROM format developed by

 

 

Philips, Sony, and Microsoft that allows

 

 

computer data, compressed audio data,

 

 

and video/picture data to share a single

 

 

track.

 

DAT

Digital Audio Tape. A magnetic tape

 

 

storage medium for the digital recording

 

 

and playback of encoded audio

 

 

information.

 

Quad Velocity Transfer

Also known as Quad Speed Transfer.

 

 

The transfer of data from the CD-ROM

 

 

drive to the microprocessor at 600 KB per

 

 

second compared to the normal rate of

 

 

150 KB per second.

 

Base I/O Address

The address from which the interface

 

 

card’s I/O addresses begin.

 

I/O Addresses

The input/output addresses used by your

 

 

computer’s microprocessor to distinguish

 

 

your CD-ROM drive from other

 

 

peripherals in your system when sending

 

 

or receiving data.

 

Kodak’s Photo CD

A disc format and a specialized player

 

 

developed and marketed by Kodak.

 

Multimedia

Applications that have been enhanced by

 

 

the addition of sound, animation, or

 

 

video. It could also be a combination of

 

 

all these.
