The problem could be the result of improper installation, incomplete disk preparation, or corrupted data. The suggestions in this section are divided into three categories:

0 Installing the drive

0Preparing the drive for use

0Accessing data on the drive.

Consult the section that seems most likely to cover the problem you are having. For example, if you have been able to use data on your disk in the past but suddenly cannot, see “Accessing Data on the Drive.”

Caution

If your disk has data on it, be very careful before you perform any procedure that may erase data (such as formatting the disk). Consult your dealer if you have any questions. Always be sure to back up your data before reformatting or repartitioning the disk drive. See the descriptions of COPY, XCOPY, and BACKUP in your MS-DOS Reference Manual.

Installing the Drive

If you are having problems with a newly-installed drive, check the following:

1.If your dealer installed the drive, consult that person about the problem.

2.If you have installed the hard disk in your computer yourself, did you carefully follow all the instructions in Chapter 7 of this manual? Review the instructions and check all the cable connections to make sure you have installed it correctly. Also check the jumper settings on your drive to make sure they are set correctly.
