Super VGA modeSpecial features of the built-in VGA adapter available when you are using certain display drivers and a multi-frequency monitor. These features include 132 column text mode and resolutions up to 800 x 600 in 16 colors.
SwitchAn option added to an MS-DOS command that modifies the way the command works. Switches are usually preceded by a / (forward slash). For example, if you add the IS switch to a FORMAT command, MS-DOS installs the operating system on the diskette as it formats it. See Parameter.
System diagnosticsA series of checks you can perform on the computer to make sure the hardware is functioning correctly.
System disketteA diskette that contains the operating system.
Tracks
Addressable, concentric circles on a disk, resembling the grooves on a record, which help to divide the disk into separate accessible areas. There are 80 tracks on each side of a double- sided 1.2MB, 1.44MB, or 720KB diskette and 40 tracks on each side of a double-sided 360KB diskette. The number of tracks on a hard disk depends on its capacity.
VGA
Video Graphics Array. A type of high-resolution display adapter. The VGA adapter built into the system board of your computer can display 16-color graphics at resolutions up to 800 x 600 or 2560-color graphics at resolutions up to 640 x 480.
