Setting the IP Address

The IP address is the address used by the SNMP or Telnet system to access the DSU/CSU (see Appendix F, IP Network Addressing Scenario). For DSU/CSUs using PPP, the IP address can be negotiated if the network device (e.g., router or SNMP manager) supports such negotiation. The IP address is composed of four fields with three digits per field (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

The example below assumes that an IP address of 010.155.111.222 is being set for the COM port. You can use the same principles to assign any value (between 000 and 255 for each digit field).

"Procedure

To assign an IP address to the COM port:

1.From the Main Menu screen, select Configuration.

2.From the Load Configuration From screen, select Current.

3.From the Configuration Edit/Display screen, select Management and Communication.

4.From the Management and Communication screen, select Communication Protocol.

5.In the Communication Port’s IP Address field, enter the IP address for the COM port. Enter the subnet mask under this.

6.When you are through making configuration option changes, select Save to store these changes in nonvolatile memory. If you want to return to the User Interface screen, press your Esc key and then save your changes from that screen.
