Before you begin
Before you begin to install options in the server, read the following information:
vBecome familiar with the safety and handling guidelines provided in “Safety information” on page 127 and “Handling electrostatic
vYou do not need to turn off the server to install or replace
vThe orange color on components and labels in the server identifies
vThe blue color on components and labels identifies touch points where you can grip a component, move a latch, and so on.
vMake sure that you have an adequate number of properly grounded electrical outlets for the server, monitor, and any other options that you intend to install.
vBack up all important data before you make changes to disk drives.

System reliability considerations
To help ensure proper cooling and system reliability, make sure that:
vEach of the drive bays has either a drive or a filler panel installed.
vEach of the power supply bays has either a power supply or a filler panel installed.
vThere is at least 50 mm (2 inches) of ventilated space at the sides of the server and 100 mm (4 inches) at the rear of the server.
vThe top cover is in place during normal operation.
vThe top cover is removed for no longer than 30 minutes while the server is operating.
vThe processor housing cover over the processor and memory area is removed for no longer than 10 minutes while the server is operating.
vA removed
vCables for optional adapters are routed according to the instructions provided with the adapters.
vA failed fan is replaced within 48 hours.
