Chapter 6

Console-Based Management

Console-based management is a menu-driven interface for the capabilities built in to the Netopia R910. Console-based management provides access to a wide variety of features that the router supports. You can customize these features for your individual setup. This chapter describes how to access the console-based management screens.

This section covers the following topics:

Console-based management screens contain seven entry points to the Netopia Router conﬁguration and monitoring features. The entry points are displayed in the Main Menu shown below:

You always start from this main screen.

■The Easy Setup menus display and permit changing the values contained in the default WAN and IP conﬁguration. Experienced users can use Easy Setup to initially conﬁgure the router directly through a console session.

Easy Setup menus contain up to ﬁve descendant screens for viewing or altering these values. The number of screens depends on whether you have optional features installed.

■The WAN Conﬁguration menu displays and permits changing your WAN and IP conﬁguration(s) and default proﬁle, and conﬁguring or reconﬁguring the manner in which you may be using the router to connect to

It is difﬁcult to specify the address that will be served to a particular client in all circumstances. However, when the address server has been conﬁgured, and the clients involved have no prior address serving interactions, the Netopia R910 will generally serve the ﬁrst unused address from the ﬁrst address pool with an available address.
