Serial port naming conventions

Each serial port has three device nodes associated with it. Each node takes the form of a file which you can access from operating system utilities and user applications. Details of these nodes are shown in the next table.

Device name	Function	Description	Location
ttyz1	Normal communications port	Indicates normal	/dev
	for local “tty” devices.	communications port

ttyZ1	Modem port	Indicates that a port open will	/dev
		not complete unless DCD is

ttyz1p	Transparent print port.	Indicates that device should	/dev
