Resident Self Tests

Availability

The M2540A Resident Self Tests (RST) are a suite of tests that verify system hardware, using no external instrumentation.

The RST suite consists of tests for custom M2540A hardware and software. The Resident Self Tests also exercise individual subsystems such as the acoustic processor and the beam former processor.

The stand-alone RST application provides access to all the tests. RST also provides information on hardware and software, and service information on the ultrasound system. System information, test pass and fail results, and errors can be viewed, saved, and printed by the RST application.

The RST application is available whenever the ultrasound application is running. You can also launch RST as the system powers up. When it starts, the RST application stops the main ultrasound application.

Logging On

To launch the RST application, see “Launching the RST Application” on page 113. The RST

application opens with a logon window, which asks you to enter a user name and a password.

The logon window also includes a check box that skips the logon dialog the next time the RST

application is launched. Only service personnel can enable that option, and it only applies for

24 hours. After 24 hours, the logon dialog shows at launch, even if the option is selected.

Customers or service personnel who log on with a valid user name and password can create and

modify service log entries. See “Using the Service Log” on page 125.

If RST is installed on the system, logging on is not required.
