BExpanding Your Printing System

Startup file You may load a startup Þle called Sys/Start onto your external disk. You can use the Sys/Start Þle to customize printer operation. For example, you can set the printerÕs color correction mode or load fonts into the printerÕs memory. The CD-ROM or diskettes include utility Þles that enable and disable the Sys/Start Þle (refer to the Phaser 480X Drivers and Utilities Printing Reference for more information).

When you turn on the printer, it executes the Sys/Start Þle if the printerÕs rear panel Switch 5 is in the down position. When Switch 5 is in the up position, the Þle does not execute.

Guidelines for connecting SCSI disks The printer can support up to seven external disks connected at one time. When connecting a hard disk to the printer, follow these guidelines:

You must turn on the disk(s) before you turn on the printer.

The printer must always be at one end of the chain with a terminator at the other end.

With multiple disks, each disk must have a unique SCSI ID number. Do not turn on the printer or disk until each disk has a unique number.

With multiple disks, only one disk can contain a Sys/Start Þle.
