Add additional handsets
Your telephone can accommodate up to eight cordle ss handsets. You can
add new handsets (VTech i5808, purchased separately) anytime. Up to three
handsets can be on a call at the same time.
The handset provided with your telephone system is automatically registered as
Handset 1 (i5871), or Handset 1 and Handset 2 (for i5873). Additional handsets
will be assigned in numerical order (2, 3, 4, etc.) when t hey are registered.
Before using a separately purc hased handset, it must be registered with the
base unit.
Registration of handsets• Make sure the addition al handset is fully charged before reg istration.
• On the base unit, pres s the softkey MENU in idle mode.
• Press the softkey three times to reach REGISTER HANDSET, and press
the softkey SELECT to select.
• The base unit screen displays READY TO REGISTER NEW HANDSE T,
press the softkey REGISTER on the h andset.
• The handset screen displays Registr ation i n Progr ess. Wi thin 15- 60
seconds, the screen displays Found Base, and the bas e unit and handset
will beep.
The maximum number of handsets for use at any time is three, and the possible
combinations include:
• Three handsets and t he base unit on an external call.
• Two han dsets an d the base unit o n an external call, and o ne hands et
accessing the answering system.
• One handset and the base unit are on an externa l call, and two h andsets
are on intercom.
