Setting Paper Handling Options

Paper handling refers to how the printer determines which tray to use when it receives a print job, and whether the printer control panel prompts you to specify the paper type and size when loading paper.

Selecting the Tray 1 Mode

The Tray 1 Mode setting specifies:

How Tray 1 paper type and size are determined for print jobs when you load paper in the tray.

Whether or not Tray 1 is used automatically for print jobs when it contains paper.

Tray 1 Mode Setting

Description

 

 

Permanent

Paper size and type are set from the control panel using the Paper Tray

 

Setup > Tray 1 Paper menu. Tray 1 is not automatically used whenever

 

it has paper and no other tray is specifically selected by the print job.

 

 

Static

Same as Permanent, plus paper size and type can be set when paper is

 

inserted into Tray 1 if:

 

• The Tray 1 Prompt is not set to None.

 

• An error message on the control panel instructs you to load paper.

 

 

Dynamic (default)

Same as Static, plus the paper size and type can be set by the first print

 

job that uses the tray after paper has been loaded. The size and type

 

are determined by the settings in the print job.

 

 

Automatic

Same as Dynamic, plus the printer will print from Tray 1 when paper is

 

loaded, unless a different tray is specified by the print job.

 

 

Set tray modes from the printer control panel or from CentreWare IS.

To set the Tray 1 Mode from the control panel:

1.On the printer control panel, select Paper Tray Setup and then press the OK button.

2.Select Tray 1 Mode > OK.

3.Use the Up and Down Arrow buttons to make a selection and then press OK.

4.To exit the menu, press the Back button until you return to the main menu.
