CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING

NOTE:

Engine idling speed and throttle cable free play should be adjusted properly before checking the ignition timing.

1.Remove:

Seat

Fuel tank side panel (right)

Refer to “SEAT, CARRIERS, FENDERS

AND FUEL TANK”. 2.Attach:

Inductive self-powered tachometer or engine tachometer

Timing light

(to spark plug lead)

Inductive self-powered tachometer: P/N. YU-8036-B

Engine tachometer: P/N. 90890-03113

Timing light:

P/N. YM-33277-A, 90890-03141

3.Check:

Ignition timing

Checking steps:

Warm up the engine and keep it at the specified speed.

Engine speed: 1,450 ~ 1,550 r/min

Remove the recoil starter 1.

Remove the timing plug 2.

Visually check the stationary pointer 3 to verify it is within the required firing range 4

indicated on the flywheel.

Incorrect firing range Check the pickup coil.

Install the timing plug.

Install the recoil starter.

Recoil starter bolt:

10 Nm (1.0 m • kg, 7.2 ft • Ib)
