Checking “manual merge” discrepancies

The cvue_extract command compares customer system files to the new Solaris operating system files installed on the CUE master disk. The new Solaris operating system files to be compared are located on the upgrade tool CD-ROM. The files on the upgrade tool CD-ROM are compared to files located on the customer's current system. Any files that show a difference between the upgrade tool CD-ROM and the current customer system are written to a manual merge directory.

Only files which are in the okdiff directory are copied to tape. CUE writes these files to tape during the cvue_extract process and the files will be copied to the directory /manual_merge on the CUE master disk during the cvue_copy process. These files are identified in /var/log/cvuelog file as “manual merge” discrepancies.

! Important:

The customer must look at the manual merge discrepancies outlined in the /var/log/cvuelog to see if they are Solaris changes (which should not be modified) or customer customization changes (which may need to be modified). The files that are identified could be important to the new system and the customer may find that these files need to be copied to a location that may eventually fix a problem. These files may contain networking information, customizations, or security settings that are critical to the customer.

To check for discrepancies between the old system and the new system:

1.Enter:

cat /var/log/cvuelog grep “merged manually” pg

2.Check the displayed messages and correct any problems that are found.

3.Continue with Checking Free Space Allocation on page 63.
