Installing SFP+ Transceivers and Cables

General Guidelines

Review the following guidelines before installing optional SFP+ transceivers or SFP+ direct attach cables in the switch:

SFP+ transceivers and SFP+ direct attach cables can be hot- swapped while the switch is powered on. For a SFP+ transceiver, you should always disconnect the fiber optic cable before removing a module.

When you are installing a SFP+ transceiver, you should install the module before connecting the fiber optic cable.

Fiber optic modules are dust sensitive. Always keep the plug in the optical bores when a fiber optic cable is not installed or when you store the module. When you do remove the plug, keep it for future use.

Unnecessary removal and insertion of a module can lead to premature failure.

Warning

A module can be damaged by static electricity. Be sure to observe all standard electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions, such as wearing an antistatic wrist strap, to avoid damaging the device.
