Chapter 6: Managing the Switch

Local Management

Connecting the Console Port

You can manage the AT-DC2552XS switch locally through the Console port (USB connector) the rear panel of the switch. This is called local management or out-of-band management because the management sessions are not connected over your Ethernet network. The requirements for local management are listed here:

A terminal or computer with a VT100 or equivalent terminal emulator program

The management cable included with the switch.

This management method uses the command line interface, which gives you access to all of the features and parameters of the switch. See the AT-DC2552XS Management Software Command Line Interface User’s Guide for information at alliedtelesis.com/support/documentation.

This procedure requires a terminal or a terminal emulator program and the management cable that comes with the switch. To start a local management session on the switch, perform the following procedure:

1.Connect the USB connector on the management cable to the Console (USB) port on the rear panel of the switch. See Figure 37

Figure 37. Connecting the Management Cable to the Console Port

2.Connect the other end of the cable to an RS-232 port on a terminal or PC with a terminal emulator program.

3.Configure the terminal or terminal emulator program as follows:

Baud rate: 9600 bps (The baud rate of the Console Port is adjustable from 1200 to 115200 bps. The default is 9600 bps.)

Data bits: 8

Parity: None
