stay connected to Wi-F i only when the devic e is connected to
a charger (whe n battery life isn ’t a pro blem), or never to s tay
connected to Wi-Fi du ring sleep. The lat ter choice is likely to
increase mobile data usa ge. You may want to revisit this se t-
ting if you rece ive a noti cation that you’re appro aching your
specied mobile data l imit.
This screen also display s the following info rmation:
MAC address: The Media Access Control ( MAC) address of
your device when conne cted to a Wi-Fi ne twork.
IP address: The internet Protocol (iP) ad dress assigned to t he
device by the Wi-Fi net work you are connec ted to (unless you
used the iP settings to assig n it a static iP addres s).
To turn Wi-Fi on or off, go to Settings > Wireless
& networks > Wi-Fi.
To manage mobile data options, g o to Settings
> Wireless & networks > Data us age.
Connect to virtual private networks
Virtual private netwo rks (VPNs) allow you to conn ect to the re-
sources inside a secure d local network, from ou tside that net-
work. VPNs are commonl y deployed by corporations, s chools,
and other institutions to l et people access local network re -
sources when not on camp us, or when connected to a w ireless
network.
