The telephone lines may be in poor condition, or you may have a bad connection.

• Lower the transmission speed (￿TXSTARTSPEED, p. 14-10).

 

If none of these solutions solve the problem, unplug the FAX and wait for at least five

Receiving Problems

Cannot receive a fax automatically.

The AX may not be set to receive automatically.

FAXor theONLYFAXMODEto receive faxes automatically, the receive mode must be set to

,Fax/Tel Mode, ANSMACHINE.MODE, or NETSWITCH*

(￿Chapter 8). If you have set ANS. MODE, confirm that an answering machine is connected to the FAX and that it is turned on with an outgoing message properly recorded (￿p. 8-10).

The FAX may have a document stored in memory, leaving little or no memory available.

Print, send, or delete any documents stored in memory (￿p. 9-5).

An error may have occurred during reception.

Check the LCD for an error message (￿p. 13-8).

Print an ACTIVITY REPORT and check for an error code (￿p. 11-3).

The multi-purpose tray may be empty.

Make sure paper is loaded in the multi-purpose tray (￿p. 2-16).

The t leph ne line cord may not be connected properly.

• Make sure it is connected properly (￿p. 2-6).

No automatic switching between telephone and fax calls.

The FAX may not be set to switch automatically between telephone and fax calls.

TelFor theModeFAX to switch automatically, the receive mode must be set to Fax/

,ANS.MACHINEMODE, or NETSWITCH* (￿Chapter 8). If you
