Removing and Installing the Chassis
Mounted directly against the rack flanges
Mounted using the center-mount bracket kit (see Figure 3-2 on page 3-5)
Because of the weight and awkwardness of lifting and supporting the chassis, you
will need three persons to remove the chassis from the rack safely. Each person
should review and observe the safe lifting guidelines in the “Lifting Guidelines”
section on page 2-5 before attempting to remove the chassis from the rack.
To remove the defective chassis from an equipment rack, follow these steps:
Step 1 Ensure that all cables are disconnected and moved out of the way.
Step 2 Loosen—but do not remove—the screws that secure the chassis to the equipment
rack.
Step 3 With one person positioned on each side of the chassis to support the weight of
the chassis and hold it steady, have a third person remove the screws that secure
the chassis to the equipment rack.
Step 4 Move the chassis out of the rack and carry it to the place prepared to store the
defective chassis temporarily after it is removed from the equipment rack.
Step 5 Set the chassis safely aside.
