Finding a Place for the Printer

Before unpacking the printer, you need to find a suitable place to use it. Follow these guidelines:

Place the printer on a flat, stable surface.

Place the printer close enough to the computer or workstation for its cable to reach.

Use a grounded outlet that has three holes to match the plug on the printer’s power cord. Do not use an adapter plug.

When you use the printer’s standard parallel interface, make sure you have a shielded twisted-pair parallel cable less than 3 m (10 ft) in length.

Leave adequate room around the printer to allow easy printer operation and maintenance. The diagram below shows the amount of space recommended.

To give you enough room to open the printer cover, allow

335 mm (13.5 inches) from the bottom of the printer to any shelf or surface directly above the printer, as shown on the next page.
