Using an External Answering Machine

To use an external answering machine with your HP Fax follow these steps.

1Set the Answer Mode to FAX. See “Setting the Answer Mode” on page 8.

2Set the Fax Ring Count to be higher than the external answering machine’s ring count. See “Setting the FAX Ring” on page 10.

For example, set the external answering machine to answer in 4 rings and set the Fax Ring Count to be 6 rings.

The HP Fax will listen for fax tones once the answering machine has answered and will receive a fax if fax tones are heard. Your answering machine may record the fax tones.

Using Caller ID—U.S. and Canada only

Important! This feature is available only on products sold in the U.S. and Canada.

If you subscribe to Caller ID through your local telephone company, you can set your fax machine to display the number or name of the caller when the call is received. In addition, you can print a list of the numbers of the last 10 people who called.
