Only two display ports work.

Solution

On an HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT with no MXM card and a 2nd Generation (Sandy Bridge) processor, if you attach three monitors to the system, only two display outputs are supported.

This issue depends on if you connect the third monitor when the system is powered off or if the system is up and running in Windows.

If the third monitor is connected when the system is:

Powered off: The VGA and top DisplayPort will be active during POST.

Running in Windows: Windows selects two of the three ports. If you want to change the configuration, you can access the graphics icon in the system tray and change the configuration to select the two preferred outputs. Once set, the selected configuration remains in effect until it is changed.
