GLOSSARY "

Frame

A frame is a series of bytes of data encapsulated with a header (and trailer). Frame is often used interchangeably with packet, although technically a packet refers to data from the network layer of the protocol stack.

Frequency Agile

The frequency agile system software allows access points to be individually configured to operate on one of several pre- programmed frequencies. Wireless stations are pro- grammed with a list of all frequencies used in the installed access points, and change frequencies in order to roam be- tween access points. Access points may be installed with overlapping coverage using different frequencies to increase throughput.

Currently, no provision exists to allow frequency agile op- eration on a subset of the available frequencies.

Frequency Hopping

Frequency hopping is a spread spectrum technique by which the band is divided into a number of channels and the transmissions hop from channel to channel is in a speci- fied sequence.

Hop

Hop is used in vector distance routing and is equal to one data link. A path to the final destination on a net is a se- ries of hops away from the origin.

Inbound Frames

Frames sent toward the distribution LAN are inbound.
