Note: The local user interface (LUI) is an RS-232c port with D-type nine pin connector.

The LUI is used for retrieving messages when performing low-level trouble shooting on the DSM. Used to access the active DS1x84 TM circuit pack, it provides remote login to the host in the case of an OAM fail.
