Interactive Mode
Interactive mode enables
∙send a message to the printer operator.
∙request and receive information from the printer operator.
∙use the printer as a data collection device.
NOTE: You cannot use protocol converter models 2071, 2072, 2073, and 2074 in interactive mode.
Processing Overview
The following procedure summarizes one transaction between the host and printer in interactive mode
1.The operator sets the printer in Print mode.
2.The host sends the printer a data stream in the form of an exception packet (see "Exception Packets"). If it uses XON\XOFF flow control, the host must precede the datastream with an initial XON.
3.When the printer receives the packet, it returns a status message (see "Printer Status Codes"). It also enters interactive mode and is ready to transmit data to the host after the host sends a prompt.
4.If the host requests a response from the printer, the operator enters the response at the printer (up to 30 characters) and presses one of the following keys:
∙6 (to send entered data)
∙8 (to respond with no data).
NOTE: The printer appends a carriage return to the end of the reponse (even if the operator enters no data).
