Questions About Recording Programs

Can I record two programs at the same time, or watch one channel and record another?

The TiVo® Series3TM HD DVR is capable of recording two programs on two different channels at the same time (dual tuner). Dual tuner functionality depends on your TV programming source, and how it is connected to your TiVo DVR.

If your TV programming source is antenna only, the DVR is configured for dual tuner.

If your TV programming source is antenna and basic cable (no CableCARD decoders), the DVR is configured for dual tuner.

If your TV programming source includes CableCARDTM decoders, you must have two CableCARD decoders installed for dual tuner functionality.

Note: A single multi-stream CableCARD decoder installed in the bottom slot on the back of the DVR enables dual tuner functionality. However, as of the first publication of this guide, multi-stream CableCARD decoders are not yet available.

What is the difference between HD programs and SD programs?

High-definition programs are broadcast with the highest quality digital sound and picture available. See “Understanding HDTV” on page vi (in the first section of this guide) to learn more about high-definition television.

High-definition recordings take up more space on your DVR than standard programs to preserve the superior quality of the broadcast.

Why can’t I adjust the recording quality of some programs?

There’s no option to change the recording quality of programs broadcast in high-definition.
