2.10 Modem Troubleshooting 2 Troubleshooting Procedures
Procedure 2 Connector Check and Replacement Check
The Modem is installed as a modem daughter card (MDC). If the modem malfunctions, there
may be a bad connection between the MDC and the system board. Or the MDC, system
board or their connectors might be damaged.
Disassemble the computer following the steps described in Chapter 4, Replacement
Procedures and perform the following checks:
Check 1 Make sure the MDC is firmly connected to PJ3000 on the system board, and the
modem/jack cable is connected to PJ3001 on the system board and the connector
of the MDC.
If a connector is disconnected, connect it firmly and repeat Procedure 1. If the
modem is still not functioning properly, perform Check 2.
Check 2 The MDC may be defective or damaged. Replace it with a new one following the
steps in Chapter 4, Replacement Procedures. If the modem is still not functioning
properly, perform Check 3.
Check 3 The modem jack or modem/jack cable may be defective or damaged. Replace it
with a new one following the steps in Chapter 4, Replacement Procedures. If the
modem is still not functioning properly, perform Check 4.
Check 4 The system board may be defective or damaged. Replace it with a new one
following the steps in Chapter 4, Replacement Procedures.
