Relay Broadcasting

Relay broadcasting allows one Okidata fax-capable unit to send a document to another Okidata fax- capable unit, which then re-sends (broadcasts) the document to a number of other locations. This is useful, for example, if you are sending a fax to a number of locations in another area code: you only need to send one transmission long distance, and it can then be broadcast at local rates.

Note: This is different from group faxing, where a fax is sent to a preprogrammed group of locations directly from the OKIFAX.

Two different Okidata fax-capable units are involved in transmitting a relay broadcast: the relay initiating station and the relay key station, or hub.

Note: At this writing, the OKIFAX 2600 is the only Okidata fax machine that can function as a relay key station.

Relay Initiating Station

Your OKIFAX 5050 can act as the relay initiating station, which starts the relay broadcast by sending the original documents. Before you can program your OKIFAX to initiate a relay broadcast, you will need to obtain the fol- lowing information from the operator of the Okidata fax- capable unit you intend to use as a relay key station:

Relay Password: This is the 4-digit relay key word that is programmed into the relay key station.
