Placethe fax on a level surface.
Donot remove the BJ cartridge from the unit unless it needs
tobe replaced, or when transporting the fax. Removing the
cartridgeand leaving the print head unprotected will cause it
todry out and become unusable.
Donot place the fax on the edge of a desk so as to prevent received documents falling onto the floor.
Certaintable surfaces may prevent received documents from sliding out smoothly, resulting in paper
jams.Do not place the fax on these types of tables.
Donot install the fax near devices which contain magnets or generate magnetic fields.
Donot subject the fax to strong physical shock or vibration.
Keepthe fax clean. Dust accumulation can prevent the fax from operating properly.
Beforeyou transport your fax, make sure to remove the BJ cartridge and recover the print head with
theorange tape. After moving the fax, remove the orange tape and reload the BJ cartridge.

Hereare some other general precautions when you are using or working around it.

CAUTION

Avoidinstalling your fax in places exposed to direct sunlight, dust, vibration, high temperature or
humidity,or on unstable surfaces.
Toassure proper electrical contact, make sure the fax is firmly plugged in.
Neverpull on the cord to unplug the fax. Pull on the plug itself.

WARNING

Donot overload the electrical outlet where the fax is plugged in.
Neverplug or unplug the fax when your hands are wet.
Foryour safety, unplug the fax during electrical storms.
Ifyou have problems with the fax (smoke, odd smells or noises), immediately unplug the fax
fromthe outlet. Keep the area around the outlet free from clutter so you can unplug the fax
quicklyin case of an emergency.
Neveruse liquids or drink beverages around the fax. Liquids spilled on the fax can cause a
fireor electrical shock. If you accidentally spill a liquid on the fax, unplug it immediately and
callyour Canon service representative.
Toavoid electrical shock from exposed power points, never disassemble the fax. There are
noparts or switches in the fax that require adjustment.
