Using Sin gle She ets

Your printer can print on single sheets of paper from 92 to

420 mm (3.6 to 16.5 inches) wide. See page A-4 for detailed

single-sheet paper specifications.

You can load one sheet of paper at a time in the front or rear

paper guide, or you can load a stack of paper in the optional

cut-sheet feeder. (See page 6-2 for more information on the

optional cut-sheet feeder.)

Note:

If you load long paper (for example, legal size paper), leave enough

space at the back of the printer so that the paper is not obstructed.

Loading single sheets from the front

1. Make sure the front paper guide is attached as described on

page 1-8. Then close the tractor unit sprocket covers located

on the back of your printer and push down the sprocket

lock levers to lock the sprocket units in place.

2. Set the paper release lever to the single-sheet position as

shown below.

3. Turn on the printer. The Power light comes on.

Paper handling Single sheets loaded from the paper guide The printer does not load single-sheets of paper. The platen does not rotate and the printer does not feed the paper. The platen rotates but the printer does not feed the paper. Paper feeding is crooked or the paper jams. 8-10 The printer does not fully eject the paper. When the printer ejects the paper, the Paper Out flashes and the Pause light comes on. Continuous paper The printer does not load continuous paper. Paper feeding is crooked or the paper jams. 8-12 The top-of-form position of your continuous paper varies when you print several pages. The printer prints on (or too far away from) the perforation of your continuous paper. The printer does not eject your continuous paper properly. 8-14 Page The cut-sheet feeder feeds more than one sheet at a time. Paper feeding is crooked. 8-16 When the printer ejects the paper, the Paper Out flashes and the Pause light comes on. One page of your document is printed on two pages. Operation The Pause light is off but the printer does not print. The Paper Out and Pause lights are on and the printer does not print. The printer sounds like it is printing, but nothing prints. 8-18 The printer makes a strange noise and stops abruptly. The printer stops printing and the Pause light flashes. Printout Part of the printout is missing, or dots are missing in random positions. Lines of dots are missing in the printout as shown below. w 8-20 Incorrect characters are printed. The typestyles or characters set in your application software cannot be printed. Printing starts too high or too low on the page. All the text is printed on the same line.
