How to Use This Manual

This manual provides illustrated, step-by-step instructions for

setting up and operating your printer.

Chapter 1 “Setting Up the Printer” contains information on

unpacking, setting up, and connecting the printer. Be sure to

read this chapter first.

Chapter 2 “Setting Up Your Software” describes how to set up

your software, which includes a printer driver for Mic ros oft®

Windows® operating systems, the EPSON Status Monitor

utility for Windows 95, and two DOS-based printer utilities.

Chapter 3 “Paper Handling” explains how to load and use

single sheets, continuous paper, and other types of pape r.

Chapter 4 “Controlling the Printer” contains information on

controlling the printer using the control panel. To change many

of the printer’s default settings, see “SelecType” in this chapter.

Chapter 5 “Using EPSON Status Monitor 2” explains how to

use the EPSON Status Monitor 2 utility for Windows 95.

Chapter 6 “Using Printer Options” explains how to use

optional accessories with your printer.

Chapter 7 “Maintenance and Transportation” provides

maintenance information, including transportation guidelines.

Chapter 8 “Troubleshooting” contains troubleshooting

information. If the printer does not operate properly or the

Paper handling Single sheets loaded from the paper guide The printer does not load single-sheets of paper. The platen does not rotate and the printer does not feed the paper. The platen rotates but the printer does not feed the paper. Paper feeding is crooked or the paper jams. 8-10 The printer does not fully eject the paper. When the printer ejects the paper, the Paper Out flashes and the Pause light comes on. Continuous paper The printer does not load continuous paper. Paper feeding is crooked or the paper jams. 8-12 The top-of-form position of your continuous paper varies when you print several pages. The printer prints on (or too far away from) the perforation of your continuous paper. The printer does not eject your continuous paper properly. 8-14 Page The cut-sheet feeder feeds more than one sheet at a time. Paper feeding is crooked. 8-16 When the printer ejects the paper, the Paper Out flashes and the Pause light comes on. One page of your document is printed on two pages. Operation The Pause light is off but the printer does not print. The Paper Out and Pause lights are on and the printer does not print. The printer sounds like it is printing, but nothing prints. 8-18 The printer makes a strange noise and stops abruptly. The printer stops printing and the Pause light flashes. Printout Part of the printout is missing, or dots are missing in random positions. Lines of dots are missing in the printout as shown below. w 8-20 Incorrect characters are printed. The typestyles or characters set in your application software cannot be printed. Printing starts too high or too low on the page. All the text is printed on the same line. The printout has extra blank lines between lines of text. 8-22 The length of the printing on the page does not match your paper length. Vertical printed lines are not aligned.
