Record Safety Tab

VHS Tape Cassette

Both VHS and 8mm tapes have record safety tabs, to protect

you from accidentally recording over your tapes. On a VHS

tape, you break the record safety tab off to prohibit record-

ing. If you later wish to record on that tape, you can put a

small piece of adhesive tape over the opening.

On an 8mm tape, you can slide the tab open and closed. If the tab is open, you will be able to record on the tape. If the

Record Safety Tab tab is closed (it will be red), you won’t be able to record on the tape.
