Chapter 5
Note: The following databases support temp orary tables for the purpose of caching: DB2,
Netezza, Oracle, SQL Server, and Teradata. Other databases will use a normal table for d atabase
caching. The SQL code can be customized for specic databases - contact Support fo r assistance.
ToFlush a Cache
A white document icon on a node indicates that its cache is empty. When the cache is full, the
document icon becomes solid green. If you want to replace the contents of the c ache, you must
rst ush the cache and then re-run the data stream to rell it.
EOn the stream canvas, right-click the node and click Cache on the menu.
EOn the caching submenu, click Flush.
ToSave a Cache
Youcan save the contents of a cache as a n IBM® SPSS® Statistics data le (*.sav). You can then
either reload the le as a cache, or you can set up a node that uses the cache le as its data source.
Youcan also load a cache that you saved from another project.
EOn the stream canvas, right-click the node and click Cache on the menu.
EOn the caching submenu, click Save Cache.
EIn the Save Cache dialog box, browse to the location where you want to save the cache le.
EEnter a name in the File Name text box.
EBe sure that *.sav is selected in the Files of Type list, and click Save.
ToLoad a Cache
If you have saved a cache le before removing it from the node, you can re load it.
EOn the stream canvas, right-click the node and click Cache on the menu.
EOn the caching submenu, click Load Cache.
EIn the Load Cache dialog box, browse to the location of the cache le, select it, and click Load.
Previewing Data in Nodes
Toensure that dat a is being changed in the way you expect as you build a stream, you could run
your data through a Table node at each signicant step. To save you from having to do this you
can generate a preview from each node that displays a sample of the data that will be created,
thereby reducing the time it takes to build each node.
For nodes upstream of a model nugget, the preview shows the input elds; for a mode l
nugget or nodes downstream of the nugget (except terminal nodes), the pre view shows input
and generated elds.
The default number of rows displayed is 10; however, you can change this in the stream
properties. For more information, see the topic Setting general options for streams on p. 55.
