5.2Xprint V7.0 architecture

Xprint V7.0 is an object-oriented system consisting of various objects. As an administrator you can define, modify, delete and, if appropriate, activate and deactivate Xprint V7.0 objects.

The following figure shows the most important Xprint V7.0 components and how these interact.

The client (xpadd command or API function) requests the printing of a job. This job is directly processed by the server (except in the case of what is called direct printing). The server passes the printout on to a suitable supervisor which itself communicates with the printer via the backend assigned to the printer.

The following section provides a more detailed description of the available objects. Almost all the Xprint V7.0 commands can be used with the different object types.
