MP3 and WMA files
!MP3is short for MPEG Audio Layer 3 and
refersto an audio compression technology
standard.
!WMAis short for Windows Media"Audio

nologythat is developed by Microsoft Cor-
poration.WMA data can be encoded by
usingWindows Media Player version 7or
later.
!Withsome applications used to encode
WMAfiles, this unit may not operate cor-
rectly.

WMAfiles, album names and other text in-
formationmay not be correctly displayed.
!Thisunit allows playback of MP3/WMA
fileson CD-ROM, CD-Rand CD-RW discs.
Discrecordings compatible with level 1
andlevel 2 of ISO9660 and with the Romeo
andJoliet file system can be played back.
!Itis possible to play back multi-session
compatiblerecorded discs.
!MP3/WMAfiles are not compatible with
packetwrite data transfer.
!Themaximum number of characters which
canbe displayed for a file name, including
theextension (.mp3 or .wma), is 64, from

!Incase of files recorded according to the
Romeofile system, only the first 64 charac-

!Whenplaying discs with MP3/WMA files
andaudio data (CD-DA) such as CD-EXTRA
andMIXED-MODE CDs, both types can be
playedonly by switching mode between
MP3/WMAand CD-DA.
!Thefolder selection sequence for playback
andother operations becomes the writing
sequenceused by the writing software. For
thisreason, the expected sequence at the
timeof playback may not coincide with the
actualplayback sequence. However, there
alsois some writing software which per-
mitssetting of the playback order.

!Whennaming an MP3 or a WMA file, add the
correspondingfilename extension (.mp3 or
.wma).
!Thisunit plays back files with the filename ex-
tension(.mp3 or.wma)as anMP3 ora WMA
file.To prevent noise and malfunctions, do not
usethese extensions for files other than MP3
orWMA files.
