Using the dynamic rangecontrol
Thedynamic range refers to the difference be-
tweenthe largest and softest sounds. The dy-
namicrange control compresses this
differenceso that you can clearly hear sounds
evenat low volume levels.
!Thedynamic range control is effective only
onDolby Digital sounds.
1 PressA to select DRC.
PressAuntil DRC appears in the display.
#Whenplaying other than the DVD disc, you
cannotswitch this mode.
2 Pressrto turn the dynamic range
controlon.
DRC:ON appears in the display. Dynamic
rangecontrol is now on.
#Toturn dynamic range control off, press
q.
Using the direct control
Youcan override audio settings to check for ef-
fectivenessof your audio settings.
1 PressA to select DIRCT.
PressAuntil DIRCT appears in the display.
2 Pressrto turn the direct control on.
DIRCT:ON appears in the display. Direct con-
trolis now on.
#Toturn direct control off, press q.

!Allaudio functions are locked out during
DIRCT:ON except VOLUME and PLB.
!Ifthe source is a 2-channel LPCM audio or a
2-channelDolby Digital audio and you select
DIRCT:ON, audio is heared only over front
left/rightspeakers.

Onlywhen the multi-channel processor (e.g.,
DEQ-P7650)is connected to this unit, you can
operatethis function.
Thedown-mix function allows you to play back
multi-channelaudio in 2 channels.
1 PressA to select Lo/Ro.
PressAuntil Lo/Ro appears in the display.
#Ifthe down mix Lt/Rt has been previously se-
lected,Lt/Rt will be displayed.
2 Pressmor nto switch the down
mixsettings.
!Lt/RtDown mix so that the surround
componentscan be restored (decoded).
!Lo/RoStereo mix the original audio that
donot contain channel modes such as sur-
roundcomponents.
Using the Dolby Pro Logic B
Onlywhen the multi-channel processor (e.g.,
DEQ-P7650)is connected to this unit, you can
operatethis function.
DolbyPro Logic Bcreates five full-bandwidth
outputchannels from two-channel sources to
achievehigh-purity matrix surround.
!Ifboth the center and the rear speakers are
setto OFF, you cannot use this function.
