Configuring VLAN Behavior for Interfaces
You can configure VLAN behavior for specific interfaces, including the default VLAN
identifier (PVID), accepted frame types, ingress filtering, GVRP status, and GAR P
timers.
Command Usage
GVRP – GARP VLAN Registration Protocol defines a way for switches to
exchange VLAN information in order to automatically register VLAN members o n
interfaces across the network.
GARP – Group Address Registration Protocol is used by GVRP to register or
deregister client attributes for client services within a bridged LAN. The defaul t
values for the GARP timers are independent of the media access method or data
rate. These values should not be changed unless you are experiencing difficulties
with GVRP registration/deregistration.
Command Attributes
PVID
VLAN ID assigned to untagged frames received on the interface. (Default: 1)
- If an interface is not a member of VLAN 1 and you assign its PVID to this VLAN,
the interface will automatically be added to VLAN 1 as an un tagged member. For
all other VLANs, an interface must first be configured as an untagged member
before you can assign its PVID to that group.
Acceptable Frame Type – Sets the interface to accept all frame types, including
tagged or untagged frames, or only tagged frames. When set to receive all fram e
types, any received frames that are untagged are assigned to the default VLAN.
(Options: All, Tagged; Default: All)
Ingress Filtering – Determines h ow to process frames tagged for VLANs for which
the ingress port is not a member. (Default: Disabled)
- Ingress filterin g only affects tagged frames.
- If ingress filtering i s disabled and a port receives frames tagged for VLANs for
which it is not a member, these frames will be flood ed to all other ports (except
for those VLANs explicitly forbidden on this port).
- If ingress filtering is ena bled and a port receives frames tagged for VLANs for
which it is not a member, these frames will be discarded.
-
Ingress filtering does not affect VLAN independent BPDU frames, such as GVRP
or STP. However, they do affect VLAN dependent BPDU frames, such as GMRP.
GVRP Status – Enables/disables GVRP for the interface. GVRP must be globally
enabled for the switch before this setting can take effect. (See “Displaying Bridge
Extension Capabilities” on page 3-11.) When disabled, any GVRP pack ets
received on this port will be discarded and no GVRP registrations will be
propagated from other ports. (Default: Disabled)
GARP Join Timer* – The interval between transmitting requests/queries to
participate in a VLAN group. (Range: 20-1000 centiseconds; Default: 20)
