Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) architecture that uses twisted-pair
cabling.
ARP
AddressRe solution Protocol. Internet protocol used to map the
IP addresst ot he Ethernet hardware address.
BOOTP
Boot Protocol. Protocol that enables a network client to
automatically discover its networking paramete rson power up
from a BOOTP server.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Protocol that enables a
net client to automaticallydiscover its networking parameters
on power up from a DHCP server and refresh those parameters
periodically.
DNS
DomainName Service. A protocol that maps Internethostnames
(e.g.www.tek.com) to IP addresses.
Ethernetaddress
The unique, six-byte address assigned by the product manufac-
turer that distinguishes each talk/listen device on the LAN. The
address consists of hexadecimal numbers separated by colons
(hh:hh:hh:hh:hh:hh).
FTP
File Transfer Protocol. Enables a client host to send or receive
files to and/or from an FTP server host.
GPIB
GeneralPurpose Interface Bus (IEEE-488).
