1Lasershou ldha veshor tcoher ence length (<1 m if possible) and multiple longitudinal
modesto minimize effectsof polarization and reflection. If a DFB or tunable laser is used, it
shouldhave a coheren ce control feature and optionally a polarization scrambler.
2Thefiber specificationsassume that adapters on the testequipment and the DUT (device
undertest) are F C/PC. Alternativeadapters ca n be used with appropriate changes in the
fibercon nectors.
Step 1: Insert the OA 5000 into a powered-down TektronixTM 5000
series Mainframe power supply.
HMake certain that the OA 5000 is securelylatched into the main-
frame.
Step 2: Turn the TM 5000 mainframe power on (via mainframe’spower
switch)
Step 3: A few seconds are required after mainframe power-up before
the OA 5000 displaysbecome lit.
HOnce the displaysbecome active, all LEDs and digital segments will
be lit for a couple of seconds; any segment which does not light up
during this time iseither defective, burnt out, or is not connected.
HThis test can be invoked anytimeafter power up by pushing and
holding the ADDR(SET)button.
Step 4: The wavelength, attenuation, and display mode will power-up at
whatever values existed before the previouspower-down; if the instru-
ment is being powered on forthe first time the settings will be at their
factory default values(see manual for these default values).
