Step 6: Enter the Wavelength set modefor the OA 5000 by pushing the
WAVELENGTH button so that the top display reads SEt.
Step 7: Using the knobs, adjust the wavelength to read 1600 nm.
Step 8: Exit the WavelengthSet mode by pushing the WAVELE NGTH
button again; the instrumentw illrequire a second to prepare the new
calibration tables (as indicated by the ATT AD J briefly lighting up).
Step 9: Adjust the OA 5000 such that the display modeis showing
attenuation in dB with the ATTindicator lit and the ---REF indicator not lit.
Step 10: Using the knobs, increase the level ofattenuation (turn the
coarse knob clockwise); keep increasingthe level until the value reach-
es a maximum level and nolonger increases. This value should exceed
50.00 dB.
Step 1: Set the optical power meter as follows(operating instructions
are for HP8153A):
HSelect the long wavelength power sensor.
HWavelength:actual wavelength (±1 nm) of 1310 nm laser
HAveraging:1 s
Togglethe Mode key to display PARA M, and then press the Param
key to display T and set T to 1 s.
HDisplayed units:W (w atts)
Step 2: Cover the sensor input and zerothe power meter.
Step 3: Connect the 1310 nm laser to the OA5000 input using the input
fiber specified inthe equipment table.
Step 4: Connect the OA 5000 output tothe sensor using the output
fiber specified inthe equipment table.
NOTE
For the OA 5012, OA 5022, and OA 5032 the input fiber may have a
smaller core diameter than the one specified, as lo ng as the laser
can couple into the fiber. For these models, the output fib er may
have a larger core diameter than the one specified, up to 1 00 m.
Step 5: Set the OA 5000:
HWavelength:actual wavelength (±1 nm) of 1310 nm laser
HAttenuation: 0 dB
HDisable: off (unlit)
Shutter Attenuationand the DISABLEbutton
