Placement of your Double N+ Wireless Router
Important factors for Placement and setup
Your wireless connection will be stronger t he closer your co mputer is
to your Router. Typical indoor op erating range fo r wireless device s is
between 100 and 200 fee t.
In the same way, your wireles s connection an d performance will
degrade somewhat as th e distance betwe en your Router an d connected
devices increases. Th is may or may not b e noticeable to you. As you
move further from your R outer, connection sp eed may decrease . Factors
that can weaken signals simply by getting in the way of your ne twork’s
radio waves are metal ap pliances or obst ructions, and wal ls.
If you have concerns abo ut your network’s pe rformance that might
be related to range or o bstruction facto rs, try moving t he computer to
a position between fi ve and 10 feet from th e Router in order to see if
distance is the proble m. If difficulti es persist even a t close range, pl ease
contact Belkin Technical Support.
Note: While some of the items lis ted below can af fect network
performance, they wil l not prohibit your wireless networ k from
functioning; if you are c oncerned that yo ur network is not operating at
its maximum effecti veness, this chec klist may help.
For more bandwidth, the Belkin Double N+ Wireless Router broad casts
two Wireless N signals simultaneously, one in the 2.4GHz band and
the other in the 5GHz band. Most Wi-Fi devices today can only use th e
2.4GHz band, but many new laptops and media devices can run on both
2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The 5GHz band usually allows the device to
run at higher speeds because there is less inter ference in this band. For
example, connect your netbook or smart phones to the 2.4GHz net work
to surf the net, email, and access sim ple web applicati ons, and then
connect your computer to the 5GHz networ k to enjoy higher s peeds for
gaming, streaming vide os, etc. If your co mputer can’t use t he 5GHz band,
please use the Belkin Double N+ Wireles s USB Adapter (F6D 6050).
The 5GHz band can offe r higher speed s, but, due to the laws of
physics, the signal will not be able to travel as far as 2.4GHz. If you are
experiencing connection issues when farthe r away from the Router,
please connect your d evice to the 2.4GHz ba nd instead.
