INTRoDUCTIoN
If your wireless signal seems weak in so me spots, make sur e that
objects such as these are not blocking the signal’s path (b etween your
computers and Router).
3� Cordless Phones
If the performance o f your wireless ne twork is impaire d after attendin g
to the above issues, and you have a cordles s phone:
• Try moving cordless phon es away from your Rou ter and your
wireless-enabled co mputers.
• Unplug and remove the bat tery from any c ordless phone th at
operates on the 2.4GHz ban d (check manufact urer’s information). If
this fixes the problem, your phone may be i nterfering.
• If your phone support s channel selec tion, change the c hannel on
the phone to the farth est channel from your wireless ne twork. For
example, change the phon e to channel 1 an d move your Router to
channel 11. See your phone’s user m anual for detaile d instructions.
• If necessary, conside r switching to a 90 0MHz cordless ph one.
1� Router Placement
Place your Router, the centr al connection po int of your networ k, as
close as possible to th e center of your wi reless network devices.
To achieve the best wireless network coverage for your “wireless clients”
(i.e., computers enabled by Belkin Wirele ss Notebook Netwo rk Cards,
Wireless Desktop Net work Cards, and Wireless USB Adap ters):
• Ensure that your Router’s n etworking antenna s are parallel to each
other, and are positioned vertically (toward the ceiling). If you r
Router itself is positi oned verticall y, point the antennas as much as
possible in an upward di rection.
• In multistory homes, place the Router o n a floor that is as close
to the center of the home as possible. Thi s may mean placin g the
Router on an upper flo or.
• Try not to place the Router near a cordless 2.4GHz phone or
microwave oven.
2� avoid obstacles and Interference
Avoid placing your Router n ear devices that may emit radio “no ise,”
such as microwave ovens. De nse objects that can inhibit wirel ess
communication include:
• Refrigerators
• Washers and/or dryers
• Metal cabinets
• Large aquariums
• Metallic-based, UV-tinte d windows
• Microwave ovens
