setting your IsP Connection Type to PPPoe
Most DSL providers use PPPoE as the conne ction type. If you use a DSL modem to connect to the Internet, your ISP may use PPPoE to log yo u into
the service. If you have an Internet conn ection in your hom e or small offic e that doesn’t req uire a modem, you may also use PPPoE.
1� User Name
This space is provided to type in your u ser name that was assigned by
your ISP.
2� Password
Type in your password and ret ype it into the “ Retype Password” box to
confirm it.
3� service Name
A service name is ra rely required by an ISP. If you are not sure if your
ISP requires a servi ce name, leave this blank.
4� MTU
The MTU setting shoul d never be change d unless your ISP gives you
a specific MTU setti ng. Making change s to the MTU sett ing can cause
problems with your Inter net connection i ncluding disconn ection from the
Internet, slow Internet access, and prob lems with Interne t applications
working properly.
5� Disconnect a fter X���
The “Disconnect” fe ature is used to au tomatically disco nnect the Router
from your ISP when ther e is no activity for a specified period of time. For
instance, placing a ch eck mark next to this option and en tering “5” into
the minute field will ca use the Router to di sconnect from t he Internet
after five minutes of no Internet activit y. This option shoul d be used if
you pay for your Internet service by the m inute.
Your connection type is PPPo E if:
1) Your ISP gave you a use r name and passwo rd, which is requ ired to
connect to the Internet .
2) Your ISP gave you softwa re such as WinPOE T or Enternet300 that
you use to connect to the Internet.
3) You have to double-click on a desktop ic on other than your
browser to get on the Inte rnet.
