Configuring your WaN Media access Controller (MaC) address
All network component s including card s, adapters, and routers, have
a unique “serial numbe r” called a MAC a ddress. Your Internet Service
Provider (ISP) may recor d the MAC address of your computer’s ada pter
and only let that par ticular computer connect to the Int ernet service.
When you install the Ro uter, its own MAC addres s will be “seen” by the
ISP and may cause the c onnection not to wo rk. Belkin has p rovided
the ability to clone (co py) the MAC address of the computer in to the
Router. This MAC address, i n turn, will be se en by the ISP’s system as
the original MAC addres s and will allow th e connection to wo rk. If you
are not sure whether you r ISP needs to se e the original MAC address,
simply clone the MAC add ress of the compu ter that was origi nally
connected to the modem. Cloning the addre ss will not cause any
problems with your net work.
