Chapter 3: Installation

3.4.1.12E42-27 or 2E42-27R Cable Connections

Ports 1 through 24 of the 2E42-27 or 2E42-27R are 10BASE-T ports with internal crossovers. When connecting a workstation, use a straight-through cable. When connecting networking devices, such as another bridge, repeater, or router, use a crossover cable.

To connect an RJ45 twisted pair segment, proceed as follows:

1.Ensure that the device connected to the other end of the segment is powered ON.

2.Connect the twisted pair segment to the 2E42-27 by inserting the RJ45 connector on the twisted pair segment into the desired RJ45 port (Ports 1 through 24) as shown in Figure 3-6.

3.Verify that a link exists by checking that the port RX LED is ON (flashing yellow, blinking green, or solid green). If the RX LED is OFF and the TX LED is not blinking yellow, perform the following steps until it is on:

a. Verify that the 10BASE-T device at the other end of the twisted

pair segment is ON and connected to the segment.
