IR In

The next option listed is the choice of video standards. The choices, selected with either the Ü or Ý Menu Control buttons are NTSC or NTSC + PAL. NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) is the technique used in North America, parts of South America and many Asian coun- tries to encode color in television broadcasts, and PAL (Phase Alternate Line) is the system used in Europe and most other parts of the world. If NTSC is chosen (the suggested choice for North America), all video sources used with the 5.0 will be assumed to be of that standard. If NTSC + PAL is chosen, an additional line will be added to each program profile.

Important Note: Changing this setting WILL NOT convert video signals from one format to the other. It only adjusts the 5.0’s internal display circuitry to operate with one standard or the other.

Your 5.0 was shipped preset for the video standard in use in your area. Do not change under normal circumstances. If you do, and your video monitoring devices are not set to operate in the same standard, the video display will lose color, and may become unviewable. Press the Û Menu Control button to move to the next adjustment.

The next item on the System Options menu, IR Mode, determines whether the 5.0 will respond to control signals aimed at the sensor on the front panel, via an external pickup device connected to the

jack â on the rear panel, or both.

Important Note: Do NOT change this setting unless an external infrared sensor is installed, as you may lose the ability to control the 5.0 if its front panel sensor is turned off and no external sensor is connected. If this happens, the system will have to be reset (covered in a later section of this manual), which will erase all user programming. (See page 59.)

Power On Vol is the next setting that appears on the System Options menu. This setting deter- mines the volume level to which the 5.0 returns each time it is turned on, initially set to 3. As there is no conventional volume-control knob to indicate the volume setting when power is off, this pre- vents any possibility of unpleasantly loud sound (or even damage to loudspeakers) when the 5.0 is turned on, regardless of how far the volume was advanced when it was last turned off. To adjust this setting, play a typical audio source and use the Û Menu Control button to highlight Power On Vol and the Ü and Ý Menu Control buttons to adjust the turn-on volume level higher or lower.

To set the volume level to which the 5.0 adjusts when the Mute button ¶ 7 on the remote or front panel is pressed, press the Û Menu Control button to highlight the words Mute Volume, and then use the Ü and Ý Menu Control buttons to select the preferred level.

While selecting “0” will turn off the sound completely, some users prefer to reduce the sound to a low, but still audible, level that allows telephone conversations or other activities.

After adjusting Mute Volume, pressing the Û Menu Control button one more time will highlight Owner. “Owner” is the name displayed on the on-screen display when the 5.0 is turned on. “Citation 5.0” is displayed by default; you may enter your name here, up to a maximum of 12 characters.

As described earlier in the section on naming each Program profile, press the Ý Menu Control button and note that the first letter is highlighted. By repeatedly pressing the Ú or Û Menu Control but-

tons , you can change the letter to any upper or lower case letter, the numerals 0–9 or a variety of symbols. The Ú Menu Control button moves forward through the alphabet; the Û Menu Control button moves backward. (Holding either button down allows for rapid scanning.)
